3 Ways to Boost your Immune System to Help Fight the Coronavirus

As coronavirus (COVID-19) spreads, we’re hearing a lot about how to reduce exposure and how to take care of ourselves if we get sick. Wash your hands, don’t touch your face, avoid direct contact with others, etc. These tips are extremely important, but we’re not hearing much on how to boost our immune systems to fight this highly contagious virus.  

Unfortunately, there is no magic pill or food that will be guaranteed to boost your immune system and protect you from the COVID-19 virus. But there are ways you can help take care of your body and give your immune system the best chance to do its job and fight against this illness.

Here are just a few ways you can help boost your immune system to help fight the Coronavirus.

 

1. Sleep when you're tired

Our bodies need rest. Without a sufficient amount of sleep, we increase our chances of developing serious health conditions and suppressing our immune function. Introducing better sleep habit’s can help boost our immune’s response to fight viruses and other diseases.

 

2. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables

During this outbreak, people are stocking up on non-perishable and long lasting food items such as canned goods. But we’re forgetting that many of these items contain harmful chemicals, preservatives, and additives that do not provide any support for our immune system. Several studies have shown that eating a wholesome diet full of fruits and vegetables can help boost the body’s natural defenses and reduce inflammation.

 

3. Reduce stress

One of the best ways to boost your immune system is to reduce stress. When we’re stressed out, our body’s produce stress hormones, which causes inflammation that compromises your immune system. How can you reduce stress? Relax! Try things like exercising, taking a bath, doing yoga, meditate or anything else that helps relaxes your body and mind.
